'Stick to what you're good at.' Such a good idea - therefore we have decided to stop serving our lunch menu from 5th July (basically due to lack of demand), so we can concentrate on other important things like beer and events, which are far more popular.

The new Bar Snacks menu will be available all day, every day. We will add half baguettes to it and still cook pies and pasties each day, so there will be hot food anytime. We can also still cater for groups and regulars when booked in advance, remaining flexible whenever we can. Should you have any queries, please give us a call.

Congratulations to all who took part - we will advise total raised asap.

We are hosting a charity bike ride in support of one of our regulars, Bill, who will be doing a 250 mile ride for Help the Heroes later in the year. To help him raise funds we are organising a 13 mile event on June 5th, where each entrant is asked to raise £75 in sponsorship. Full details are on the pub notice board, or available by e-mail on request.

Please note that from Tuesday 6th April (after Easter) we will not open until Noon from Sunday to Thursday. We will open at 11.00am on Fridays and Saturdays as now. This change will only affect a tiny minority of customers, but will offer us more time to improve other aspects of the business. We do hope it does not cause too much inconvenience, and we will often be able to open on request for morning meetings, for example. Please call us for further information if necessary.

Last month we launched a new customer survey card, which aims to gain feedback from regular and occasional visitors. As an incentive, we are offering a prize draw each month, where the winning entrant can choose a prize of beer, wine or food. Congratulations go to Paul from Northwood who won the inaugural draw, and has chosen his prize in beer. (Surprise!)

On Saturday 30th Janaury we had a party to celebrate our tenure at the Land of Liberty for 5 years. Thanks to all who attended for a very pleasant evening. Rest assured we are planning to ensure we have another successful 5 years, with even more beers and more festivals to come. Many thanks for your ongoing support.

Thanks to our regular customers who showed great willingness to help cars and people up Long Lane. Due to the lane being closed before Christmas for a week, it became rther treacherous as it had not been gritted. Many times have I wished for a helping hand to get to the pub, so we must say a big thanks now we are on the receiveing end. Cheers.

At the end of our first season of the pub's football prediction league, a presentation night was held for the three winners. During the 2008/9 season, several regulars paid £1 per week to enter thier predictions for the weeks' games. During the presentation, Gill, the landlady, thanked Colin and Lee for all their efforts in getting the system organised, and thanked everyone for taking part to raise money for charity. This inaugural season was a close run competition, with Lee winning, with Kelvin in second and John in third. We raised £235 for charity which will go to 'Help for Heroes' to support returning military personnel.

Lee receives his medal and winnings.

There is a new operator and timetable for the R4 service from Watford to Heronsgate & Chorleywood, E-mail us for a copy, or see the pub noticeboard for details. As always, if you call us we will arrange to collect you from the station if at all possible.

'The Watford & District branch of CAMRA is delighted to announce that the Land of Liberty, Peace and Plenty in Heronsgate has been named Branch Pub of the Year for the fourth year running. The branch would like to congratulate Martin Few, Gill Gibson and all their staff; and we wish them all the best in the county and regional competitions, and hopefully beyond.'

The award will be presented to the Land of Liberty from 8pm on Friday 6th March.

Here is an update on progress of our continuing refurbishment of the pub...

Following advice from Derek, our resident lighting expert, and a lucky bit of shopping on the internet, we found nice lamp shades for the new wall lights in the bar. A more cosy atmosphere ensued, especially helped by the log fire which has been alight in it's new grate on a regular basis! There has also been improvements to the cellar, and some decorating upstairs completed, so thanks to Mr. Reliable - also known as Alex!

Our Christmas Charity quiz was well attended, with each team offering raffle prizes for charity. We raised £100 for Watford Lions which was won by Mike (shown below), and £141 was raised for the various prizes on offer on the night. Congratulations to Ian for winning the closely-fought quiz on his own - and thanks for donating his £50 winnings. Along with Kozmik Ken's donation of £20 to boost the total, the money went to the Athritis Research Campaign. Many thanks to all those who attended.

It is with great pride we can announce that The Land of Liberty, Peace & Plenty has made it into the finals of the CAMRA Pub of the Year Competition. Press releases were made on 11th January 2008, detailing the 4 finalists. The news has stirred much local interest, and many messages of congratulations from regulars and suppliers. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us during our 3 years here, and assure you we will continue to keep standards high whilst developing the business over the coming years.
